Anxiety and Depression
What's gone wrong? Why do I feel so bad?

Real anxiety and real depression are nothing like the “jitters” and blues that are normal and temporary aspects of everyone’s life.

Anxiety may feel like your whole body is on permanent red alert and there’s no way out – that no solution available to you can do anything to make your life better or more safe. Depression can suck the life out of you, leaving you feeling tortured, isolated and exhausted. You’re sleeping all the time or can’t sleep at all, pleasure is a distant memory, and you can’t think of a single thing good about yourself. Living may even feel so painful that death seems like it would be a relief.

Both anxiety and depression can feel as though they have happened to you, infected by some outside source out of your control like a case of the flu. But although they may feel like something imposed on you, they’re a response to something inside of you.

Mostly, they are a response to feelings that simply feel too difficult, frightening or overwhelming to accept and deal with alone. They can also be legitimate responses to present-day circumstances that are highly stressful and feel like they are out of your control.

Resolving Depression and Anxiety

Depression and anxiety can and do get resolved when what has been too difficult, frightening or overwhelming to deal with is brought out into the open, piece by piece, in the safe and supportive confines of therapy. It usually takes some time and effort, but I don't believe you are "fated," by your genes, your neurochemistry or anything else, to be anxious or depressed. Working together, it's totally possible that anxiety and depression can be lifted completely. What’s more, even if you are an anxiety- or depression-prone person, I can offer you tools and techniques that you can use your entire life, so that you never get full-blown anxiety or depression again.
