Rates

My rates are comparable to other licensed, experienced mental health professionals in the area. If cost is a prohibiting factor, please talk to me about it to see if we can come to a figure that you can afford. For your convenience, I now accept Visa and Mastercard for payment.

Insurance

If your insurance has out-of-network benefits for mental health treatment, you may be reimbursed for up to 60-80 percent of the cost of your therapy. Contact your insurance company to find out what your benefits are. Nowadays, you may be able to obtain this information by going to your insurance company’s website and clicking on "My Insurance" or its equivalent. If not, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your benefits.

The questions you need to ask are:

Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health treatment?

What percentage of out-of-network sessions are covered?

Is there a deductible?

How many sessions are covered per year?

By "year" do they mean the calendar year, or is there a plan year? If there's a plan year, when does it begin?

Does mental health treatment require "authorization" or a "treatment plan"?

Many insurance companies require that your therapist call them after the first session to get your therapy "authorized." After that, you are allotted a certain number of sessions (anywhere from five to 26, depending on the insurance company). If you want to continue after that, the therapist must submit a treatment plan generally stating the reasons you entered therapy and your therapy goals, after which they almost always allot more sessions.

At your request, I will give you timely statements that you can submit to your insurance company. I will also obtain the necessary authorizations and submit any required treatment plans, doing my best to protect your privacy and confidentiality. If you plan to use your insurance, let me know this in the first couple of sessions so that we can be sure to fulfill the insurance company’s requirements and you can get the full benefits to which you are entitled.
